Are your pants lying to you?

shoppingforpants 300x159 Are your pants lying to you?On a recent shopping trip, I heard a lady say to her friend “I must be losing some inches because I had to get smaller pants.” This sounds encouraging at first but you really can’t rely on the sizes in clothing to gauge fat loss. Clothing makers are pretty smart. They want to sell as much as possible and they know you’ll buy more if you think you’re smaller. They have been manipulating the sizes for decades as over 66% of Americans are overweight or obese.

For example, Lane Bryant is a plus size clothing store for women, which has this kooky sizing system call Right Fit. It was hailed as a revolutionary jean sizing solution. They are sized as follows: 1 equals a woman’s size 14, 2 equals a 16, and so forth up to size 8 equaling a size 28. The color (red, yellow and blue), corresponds to the difference in inches between the woman’s waist and hips…

Well I guess a size 8 sounds better than size 28. It’s just another way to fool people into thinking they are not getting bigger; allowing them to get complacent about their health.

The best way to know if you within hip to waist ratio is take your measurements. Divide your hips by your waist. Ladies, your hip to waist ratio should be no more than .7 and men .9.  So, if your hips are 40 and your waist 34, you have a 1.17 hip ratio!

I always keep a pair of jeans in my closet that never fit just right as a judge. I try them on every month and if they are fitting better–hot damn!  Don’t fall for the hype of pant sizing going backwards!
